Royal Visit, April 2016
On 12 April 2016, International Day for Street Children, two of SBT's centres had some very special visitors. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge first visited GRP contact point at New Delhi station, where it all started for SBT back in 1988. They met some of the children who have been associated with the contact point for some time. As well as trying out a game of carrom, there was a much more serious element to the visit as they met the mental health team to discuss this important and ground-breaking area of SBT's work.
From there they went to visit the new Aasra shelter home, just across the road from the head office. As visitors on the City Walk will appreciate, you can only reach the shelter by walking through the narrow alleys of Paharganj.
SBT representatives have visited the residencies of heads of state before to receive awards - from the President of India and Michelle Obama - but the Trust has not before been honoured by royal visitors.
At Aasra the couple met the children staying in the short term shelter while SBT tries to find their parents.
